Dhananjay Singh

Dhananjay Singh builds near-human-scale figures and trees from intricately twined bronze, copper, and stainless steel wire—works whose tendril networks hold fragility and monumentality in the same breath.

Born in 1977 in Hajipur, Bihar, Singh took his BFA in Sculpture at the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University, and his MFA in Sculpture at M.S. University, Vadodara, later serving as visiting faculty at NIFT Gandhinagar. His signature wire technique emerged during a 2006 Commonwealth Foundation residency at the Faculty of Art and Design, Monash University, Melbourne, where an encounter with his peers’ bronze work set his practice on its defining course.

The same delicacy carries into his drawings and watercolours, where figures woven from filament-like lines float across the sheet. His trees—canopies of countless welded strands rising from rooted trunks—stand at the centre of Where Roots Remember, his exhibition with Sculpted India at Travancore Palace, New Delhi, from 11 to 14 October 2026.

His first solo exhibition was held at Monash University in 2006, with subsequent showings at the Gulf Art Fair, Dubai (2007), Bronze at Gallery Espace, New Delhi (2006), and the Harmony Show, Nehru Centre, Mumbai (2004–06). His honours include the Gold Medal of Banaras Hindu University (2000), the National Lalit Kala Akademi Award (2002), the INLAKS Fine Art Award (2005), and the Commonwealth Arts and Crafts Award, London (2005).
